Please note, this interview was filmed on Tuesday
Last night (Monday 17th November), participant Will made his radio debut. Will, aged 15 from Ashfield School, has been training on our 'Broadcast and Achieve' scheme for eight weeks and has been taught how to create a radio show and last night got the opportunity to put that to practise with a 30 minute live segment.
Assisted by Children's Producer Craig Priest, Will began to grow in confidence over the thirty minute period giving listeners a taster of his 'Film fanatics' feature. In the video below, you can see Will's thoughts on completing his first show, he will now continue to develop his skills on air - you can catch him next week 5-5.30pm.
Speaking of Will's debut, Children's Producer Craig Priest said "I have been delighted with Will's progress and felt it the right time to see if he could swim in the deep end! He did really well to cope with nerves and presented a good feature, I look forward to watching him grow over the next 3-4 weeks as he moves upto a regular live show"
The interview took place as part of our October Half Term Broadcast & Achieve scheme. The Trio quizzed the Sutton Community Academy Principal, whose just completed his first full term at the helm, about a number of topics including school meals, unauthorised absences and much more. Hit play to hear the interview in full.
During October Half Term, the members of the Broadcast and Achieve crew took part in their fifth specialised scheme of the year 'October All In'. Participants were given the theme of Interviews and Entertainment and began the week by doing a role play work shop on press conferences and conducting interviews. In the afternoon, as part of being funded by Children In Need, participants accompanied Children's Producer Craig Priest to BBC Radio Nottingham to share their views on how the funding has helped them.
The remainder of the week was split between discussion and interview themed shows and entertainment based shows. Participants interviewed local head teachers Jon Crone (Quarrydale) and Tim Croft (Sutton Community Academy) and also created interactive games that work for radio but can be played on stage in an Outside Broadcast situation.
Below you can view a series of videos from the week and go behind the scenes, watch the mock press conference and hear what the participants themselves had to say about the 'October All In'
