During tonight’s final episode of Talk Talk Monday, I never entered the studio expecting to leave it having agreed to do a triathlon – I know what people mean now when they say don’t work with animals or kids!!
The idea stemmed as a laugh, quite frankly I blame Alison – had she not told the story of her falling into the splash pool during a family bike ride when she was younger, Jon and Cam would never have suggested a repeat performance, which escalated into a full on triathlon quicker than I could shut them up.
Once again I muttered those fateful words “If you do it, I’ll do it” – when will I ever learn!
As they were all leaving the office tonight I gave them a chance to opt out of it, but no it seems the “Takeover Triathlon” is very much ON! So now, after scoffing out on KFC I’m left wondering what the hell I’ve agreed too.
I’m 23 years old, I’m thinner than a rake and up until two years ago, lived on a diet of crisps and galaxy chocolate. I don’t cycle, I get ferried around everywhere, either by my long suffering partner or by bus, the only running I do is to catch said bus and as for swimming – I paddle badly on holiday but did recently learn backstroke…without the arm movement.
How on earth am I going to manage a triathlon? My dad mentioned to me that his boss is training for the great north run next year and thinks he won’t have enough preparation time! Awkward when we plan to do our triathlon at the end of August, just over six weeks away!
So now I have a problem, do I seek medical advice, do I attempt to do any sort of training or do I pull the whole thing – the latter isn’t an option really, the kids are really keen to do it and raise money for the station at the same time, it’d be disrespectful for them if I were to wuss out now.
What I will do now is get all of this in place and make the event happen, the kids are setting up Just Giving pages as I type and are already bugging family and friends for sponsorship.
The event itself will take place over two-three days and I’ve already done a quick browse of the internet and identified a few locations to do the cycle and swim parts of the task, the aim is between five and ten miles on the bikes and a challenge of how many lengths can be swum in one hour. We’re not quite sure on the running yet!
Either well it’s a mammoth challenge, make sure you keep coming back for blogs and videos on our Triathlon challenge!
